“If only you and your husband were getting divorced, then I’d have more to offer to you.”
— Our son’s school counselor
On the scale of traumatic experiences for children, divorce comes after death of a loved one. And yet, the amount of resources and support for children coping with the death of a loved one pales in comparison. That reality was never more apparent than in February of 2014, our beloved father, Efrem Dlugacz passed away, an event that created deep and lasting despair in our children’s lives. As we spoke to counselors and social workers, we found a lack of available resources for our children that might help them cope with the loss of their grandfather. We quickly realized that we were not the only parents to face this situation. To help fill this void, we decided to create unique experience-based programs that serve the needs of grieving children and communities.
The Efrem Foundation was created to turn your child’s traumatic, life altering family loss into an opportunity for growth and positive transformation. By facilitating the discovery of strengths and new passions, within the arts and sports, we can enable every child to become successful and productive. We partner with donors, mental health professionals and local businesses to help kids refocus and find their purpose.
